Medical Gas Small Works & Modifications

Outlet relocations, new outlets, pipeline extensions and equipment replacements, planned around your facility and re-certified before they go back into service.

Not every medical gas job is a new hospital. Most facilities need a steady stream of small changes: an outlet moved for a new bed layout, oxygen added to a consult room, a valve box replaced, a pipeline extended for a refurbishment. These jobs still involve live, life-critical systems, and they need the same care as a major project.

We specialise in this kind of work for hospital engineering teams, clinics, builders and fit-out contractors, from scoping and shutdown planning through to testing and certification of the modified section.

Medical air, oxygen and suction outlets on a medical service panel

Typical small works

  • Relocating medical gas outlets for new room or bed layouts
  • Adding oxygen, medical air or suction outlets to existing rooms
  • Extending pipelines for refurbishments and small fit-outs
  • Replacing isolation valve boxes, valves and alarm panels
  • Adding isolation valves so future work doesn't need wide shutdowns
  • Fixing defects identified in annual test reports
  • Re-testing and certifying modified sections

Planned shutdowns, minimal disruption

Working on a live system means part of it has to be isolated. We confirm the existing isolation points, plan the shutdown with your facility team, and schedule tie-ins out of hours or on weekends where needed. Temporary supply from cylinders is arranged with your facility and gas supplier, so patient areas stay covered.

Tested and certified before it goes back into service

Any modification to a medical gas pipeline needs the affected section tested and certified before it is used. We test the modified pipework and outlets and provide documentation for your records. A facility witness is required for medical gas commissioning, and our sister business Medical Gas Training offers a short online course for shutdown and modification witnesses.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Any section of a medical gas pipeline that is modified needs to be tested and certified before it goes back into service, and the testing must be witnessed by an appropriate member of the facility.

Simple relocations are often completed in a day, but the timing depends on access, where the system can be isolated, and how long the shutdown can run. We confirm this when we scope the job.

Yes. Tie-ins and shutdowns are often scheduled at night or on weekends to avoid affecting patients. We price after-hours work on request.

Yes. If your testing provider identifies defects such as leaking valves, faulty outlets or alarm issues, we can quote and complete the rectification works and re-test the affected sections.
