Medical Gas Piping Installation

Design, installation, testing and certification of medical gas pipeline systems to AS 2896-2021 for hospitals, clinics and healthcare facilities across Melbourne and regional Victoria.

Medilab Piping Solutions installs, extends, tests and maintains medical gas pipeline systems for hospitals, cancer and day procedure centres, medical clinics and healthcare simulation spaces. Every system is installed in medical-grade copper, then tested and certified to AS 2896-2021 with full documentation at handover.

We work directly for healthcare facilities and as a specialist subcontractor to builders, hydraulic consultants and fit-out companies, from a few new outlets to complete plant, reticulation and alarm systems.

What we install

  • Medical oxygen, medical air, nitrous oxide, carbon dioxide and medical suction (vacuum) pipelines
  • Anaesthetic gas scavenging and tool air
  • Automatic changeover cylinder manifolds (1×1 and 2×2)
  • Medical air compressors and medical suction plant
  • Isolation valve boxes and medical gas alarm panels
  • Outlets on wall plates, bedheads and medical service panels
  • Pipeline extensions and tie-ins to live hospital systems

Testing, commissioning and certification

Medical gas systems are life-critical, so nothing is handed over until it has been tested and certified. In line with AS 2896-2021 we pressure and leak test the reticulation, check every outlet delivers the correct gas, confirm flow and pressure, and test alarm panels and isolation valves. Medical air quality is checked against AS 2568.

AS 2896 also requires a member of the healthcare facility who is experienced in administering medical gases to witness testing and certification. If your team needs to prepare for that role, our sister business Medical Gas Training offers short online witness training.

We check the design before we price it

On tendered projects we review the consultant's drawings against AS 2896 before quoting. Where a schematic doesn't comply, such as a manifold arrangement that won't meet the standard or a single compressor where duty and standby plant is required, we flag it in the quote and price the compliant option. That avoids surprises and variations at commissioning.

Frequently Asked Questions

Non-flammable medical gas pipeline systems are installed and tested to AS 2896-2021, and medical air quality is assessed against AS 2568. We test, certify and document every installation to these standards.

Yes. We regularly tie new outlets and pipework into live systems. Tie-ins are planned around the existing isolation points and coordinated with the facility, and can be scheduled out of hours or on weekends to minimise disruption.

AS 2896-2021 requires a member of the healthcare facility experienced in administering medical gases to witness testing and certification. For non-respirable gases, this is the responsible anaesthetist or their delegate.

Yes. We supply and install medical air compressors, suction plant and cylinder manifolds, together with the reticulation, valve boxes and alarm panels that connect them.

We install across metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria, including Geelong, Ballarat and Bendigo. Design, compliance and consulting services are available Australia-wide.
